Get your home ready for the SUMMER heat!

How do you know when your home is ready for the blistering summer heat in the Arizona desert? Well, before you turn your a/c unit on, refer to this checklist to ensure that you don't run into any expensive repairs when you need the a/c the most!

1. Change your air filter.
You should be doing this ONCE A MONTH, but it's a good idea to make sure that this is fresh before you turn on your a/c!

2. Clean your condenser coil.
This is your big, bulky, metal unit on the side of your home or on the roof. Simply rinsing this off with a garden hose around the side fins (never on top) will help wash away some of the dirt and pollen that have been accumulating on it since the last time you used it. If it's really dirty, make sure when you schedule your tune up, you ask your technician to get it the chemical cleaning to ensure efficiency.

3. Schedule a tune up by your HVAC contractor.
This is something you should ideally be doing twice a year. What this does is inspect your whole home comfort system for anything that could be malfunctioning. You want this done BEFORE you turn on your system and the weather is 95+ degrees!

4. Get your ducts cleaned!
Many of us don't think about how often this should be done. Realistically, this should be done EVERY TWO YEARS to ensure that your air quality is up to par!

5. Inspect your insulation.
City code is at R-30 value, but that is only about 12 inches thick. Ideally, you want your insulation to be 16-20 inches thick to ensure that it is properly reflecting heat from entering your home. This will also save you lots of money on your electricity bill when the weather really starts to heat up!

Are you ready? It's okay if you're not. We understand. But don't be afraid to take advantage of this beautifully neutral weather and get this taken care of before it's too late!
